Butler Snow Foundation Donates $31,000 To Communities Across Tennessee
Grants go to Memphis, Tenn. and Nashville, Tenn. Organizations
RIDGELAND,Miss.–March 20, 2014–The Butler Snow Foundation has awarded grants totalingmore than$31,000to community organizations in the Memphis, Tenn., and Nashville, Tenn.areas. Foundation donations for 2014are focused on youth programs, career services initiatives and domestic and sexual violence prevention.
The Butler Snow Foundation has given more than $1 millionin community grants over the past 17 years. This year’s foundation recipients:
- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis–Dedicated to creating opportunitiesfor children through after-?school education, the Memphis chapter serves nearly 4,000 youth between the ages of 6 and 18 by providing the fun experiences and critical guidance kids need to build bright futures. This $16,000 contribution is for the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Camp Phoenix, a summer camp on the shores of Lake Sardis in Northern Mississippi that makes a difference in the lives of about 350 Memphis-?area kids each summer.
- 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee, Inc.–This national alliance of leading African American men from business, industry, public affairs and government has a mission to improve the quality of life for African American youth.This $15,000 contribution is to help fund the group’s pilot partnership program with the NissanResume Challenge, which guides high school students through a typical job search process –from drafting a resume and writing a cover letter to sharing best practices for job interviews. This grant will be used specifically to extend the program to the Jackson, Miss. area.
- Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic & Sexual Violence–Is committed to ending domestic and sexual violence in the lives of Tennesseans and to changingsocietal attitudes and institutions that promote and condone violence. This contribution will be used for the group’s Immigrant Legal Clinic Project.
“So many deserving groups are doing so much good in our communities,” said foundation chair and Butler Snow attorney Tommy Williams.“We are honored to deliver the foundation’s contributions each year, and it is certainly one of the most enjoyable things any of us does.”
The Butler SnowFoundation was established in 1997 by a generous gift from a client of the law firm of the same name.The Foundation funds worthy causes or social services organizations in communities Butler Snow serves. Since its inception, the Foundation has supported organizations such as Mission First, Habitat for Humanity, Youth Life Learning Centers, Mississippi Episcopal AIDS Committee, Hands-?on-?Memphis and the Boys & Girls Club of the Gulf Coast.
