JACKSON, Miss., Aug. 11, 2015 – Magnolia Health recently helped close the gap in eye care access for children in Meridian by bringing exams to them with OptiCare’s “SeeMore” vision van. Through partnering with the Meridian Housing Authority, professionals aboard the mobile eye care unit provided screenings to 41 children and eyeglass fittings to 12 children.
“Magnolia Health advocates regular eye exams to address eye conditions early on as part of maintaining overall health,” said Dr. Jason B. Dees, president and CEO of Magnolia Health. “These critical eye exams are important for everyone—especially for developing children.”
“Amblyopia (lazy eye), glaucoma (excessive pressure in the eye), and refractive error (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism) are too often left undiagnosed and untreated,” said David Lavely, president and CEO of OptiCare. “Our vision van events help identify eye care problems among participants and communicate the importance of regularly visiting an eye care provider.”
