Flora, Miss. — July 27, 2015 — The town of Flora has completed a new water supply well, which more than doubles the town’s water capacity, modernizes its supply and will allow the retirement of its oldest active well constructed in 1967.
“As part of my commitment to the citizens of Flora to improve our infrastructure for generations to come, this new well development allows us to better serve the growing needs of our citizens and ensures a safe and sustainable water supply,” said Flora Mayor Les Childress.
The new well is located on land donated by Madison County Economic Development
Authority in Flora’s industrial park, and is ready to serve the entire town and all current and prospective tenants of the industrial park. A new diesel-powered standby generator assures Flora’s customers continuous service during power outages.
The well can produce 500,000 to one million gallons per day, which exceeds the
490,000 gallons of daily water demand from its citizens.
Funding for the well’s construction was provided by a grant and loan from the Mississippi Development Authority.
The well was constructed by Griner Drilling, Inc. and designed by Waggoner Engineering, Inc., through its affiliate, Mississippi Engineering Group, Inc.
