Shared Health® Names Lori Malone Compliance, Privacy & Security Officer

(Chattanooga, TN, Oct. 6, 2010) – Shared Health®, Inc. – a leader in the health information technology industry (HIT) – has named risk management expert and former soft drink executive Lori Malone compliance, privacy and security officer.
 
Malone – who has more than 20 years of risk management experience in the beverage, manufacturing, distribution and insurance industries – will direct all of the security, privacy, compliance and risk management functions for the company.

Shared Health® was recently awarded the HIPAA Security and Privacy Covered Entity accreditations from URAC, a Washington, DC-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry. These prestigious designations are for companies that demonstrate the highest levels of HIT security and privacy standards.
 
Malone previously served as vice president of risk management services for The Coca-Cola Company, the top risk executive position at the world’s largest beverage company. She joined Coca-Cola in 1990, and was promoted four times during her tenure there.
 
At Coca-Cola, Malone led a staff of more than 100, and directed multiple functions including enterprise risk management, claims operations , defense litigation, loss prevention and claims collections for more than 30,000 cases annually. Under her risk management guidance, Coca-Cola reduced annual expenses by $40 million, and she oversaw a $200 million budget.

Other major initiatives Malone directed at Coca-Cola included the implementation of a company-wide paperless regulatory compliance reporting, tracking and management tool for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) . Malone also launched comprehensive information technology and training programs that reduced the company’s cost of risk by 30 percent .
 
Prior to her stint at Coca-Cola, Malone was an assistant risk manager at Raychem Corp., a Menlo Park, Calif., electronic component parts manufacturer, where she managed insurance, claims, broker relationships and risk management activities worldwide.
 
She was also a corporate compliance project manager for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, where she was project manager in the newly formed Office of Health Care Reform.
 
Malone holds a bachelor’s of business administration degree, with a concentration in risk management and insurance from the University of Georgia.
 
She lives with her husband in Dalton, Ga.
