Timothy V. Kemp Joins Butler Snow in Washington D.C. and Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 16, 2016Butler Snow is pleased to announce Timothy V. Kemp has joined the firm as a partner in the firm’s Washington D.C. and Nashville offices. Kemp will be a part of the firm’s regulatory and government relations group, where he will continue to focus his nationwide practice on insurance and financial services regulation, government relations, compliance and corporate governance.

His background in compliance and enterprise risk management will also enable us to partner with our clients to identify and address key risks while they are still internal issues.”

 

After more than 20 years in-house, most recently serving as deputy general counsel, chief regulatory and government relations counsel and chief compliance officer of a $5 billion public insurance and bank holding company with international operations, Kemp resumed private practice in 2014 to build a nationwide practice focusing on financial services and insurance regulation, with an emphasis on the representation of insurance holding companies, underwriters and agents in matters before federal and state regulatory agencies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and all state departments of insurance.

 

He also counsels regulated businesses on matters of compliance, corporate governance and vendor management. He uses his extensive business experience to assist clients in developing innovative solutions that help manage legal, regulatory and enterprise risks while keeping sight of their corporate and business objectives.

 

Kemp is a recognized speaker and panel moderator and has contributed to several industry publications and forums. He has provided training and continuing education nationwide to federal and state legislators, insurance industry regulators, employee and client groups and various industry trade associations on topics ranging from the Real Estate Settlement Procedures

Act, own risk and solvency assessment and laws, regulations and initiatives pertaining to regulated businesses, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, changing market conditions and new insurance products and programs. In addition, Kemp has authored and advocated for proposed legislation and testified before state legislative committees, the National Conference of Insurance Legislators and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Kemp completed his undergraduate education at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss, before earning his Juris Doctor at The University of Mississippi. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Tennessee, Illinois and Mississippi.
