NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Chapter of Health Information Management Systems Society, a 501c6 not-for-profit, dedicated to educational programs and advancement of healthcare information technology, announced today the creation of a new full-time position and the appointment of Tiffany Townson as director. In this role, Townson will focus primarily on chapter administration, program management, marketing, communications and member engagement.
TN HIMSS is one of the leading HIMSS chapters in the nation, has won multiple awards and boasts more than 1,800 members, hundreds of volunteers and is experiencing significant growth. With a primary focus on education, TN HIMSS delivers the region’s premier healthcare information technology event, Summit of the Southeast, which will be held on October 28-30, 2015 at the Music City Center in Nashville,TN. In its seventh year, the Summit of the Southeast will convene top industry leaders to share case studies, best practices and actionable next steps to assist health professionals in facing daily challenges and managing emerging technology solutions. This Summit hosts the industry’s leading minds and most innovative health IT professionals, clinicians, and entrepreneurs with two days of education, professional networking and exhibitions.
In 2014, TN HIMSS and Belmont University announced the creation of the Health Information Technology (HIT) Workforce Accelerator program. The Accelerator provides a new curriculum that will propel students toward joining the HIT workforce to support the rapid growth of the industry in Middle Tennessee. The program is the outcome of a collaborative engagement between TN HIMSS, Belmont University, Nashville Health Care Council, and the Nashville Technology Council. The first year was a great success and year two commences soon.

We worked with Teknetix, LLC, to search out the most qualified candidates”, said TN HIMSS Chapter President Connie McGee. “Tiffany has the not-for-profit background where she recently worked as a Programs and Events Director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). We’re delighted she chose to relocate from Anaheim to Nashville and look forward to the positive impact she will provide the chapter.”

With our base location in the “healthcare mecca” of Nashville, it has allowed us the opportunity to tap into a wealth of resources and innovators leading and driving healthcare transformation. It’s exciting to see the growth within our statewide initiatives, and have TN HIMSS as the first chapter on a national level to hire a full-time employee that will help in member engagement and execution of our initiatives.”
